In 2013, the Foundation awarded six grants from its unrestricted endowment to nonprofits on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.



North Street Playhouse

$40,000 - for construction of a building behind the theatre to serve as a storage and scene shop for the playhouse


Atlantic Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co.

Mary N. Smith Alumni Association

$40,000 - for rendering operational the first floor and annex rest rooms and to repair the boiler in the former Mary N. Smith High School

Resource Conservation and Development Council

$40,000 - to assist a collaborative partnership to demonstrate on Occohannock Creek a living shoreline as a cost-effective, nature-based solution for protecting local communities from natural hazards like coastal flooding and erosion problems

United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore

$5,100 - for replacement of outdated equipment necessary for an efficient operation over the next five years


WHRO - Eastern Shore Capital Campaign

$20,000 - grant to be directed toward an education component in all Eastern Shore Schools for online studying
